Lyon have hit the ground running and they should have too much for Caen in Friday's TV game.
Lyon v Caen – Friday 7.45pm, BT Sport 1
Lyon eased past Nancy in their opener with the in-demand Alexandre Lacazette adding a few million to his price tag after bagging a hat-trick. Caen, meanwhile, battled back impressively from 2-0 down to overcome Lorient 3-2 at home.
Lyon suffered from a slow start last season, finding themselves down in 11th after 23 games, but a change in manager did the trick as they eventually finished second under Bruno Genesio. After an unbeaten pre-season and an opening day victory they look as if they’ve hit the ground running and their main man up front will be full of confidence so don’t be surprised to see Lacazette open the scoring here. Under Genesio, Lyon won eight of 10 unbeaten games at the Parc Olympique last term, with seven of those victories coming after leading at the break.
Caen got off to a flyer last term, sitting 2nd after 16 games, but tailed off in the second-half of the season. They’ve had a reasonable transfer window, with their only significant loss being Dennis Appiah at right-back, but their star player from term, Andy Delort, has been on strike for the past month and is unlikely to return yet. New signings did score all three of their goals last weekend, including two for front man Ivan Santini, but there’s not enough to suggest they’ve closed the gap on their hosts. Since returning to Ligue 1 they haven’t fared well when travelling to Lyon, conceding seven goals and scoring once in two visits, with Lacazette bagging three of those. We expect Lyon to be too strong for them again and the Lyon/Lyon HT/FT at 2.2 looks a good bet as Caen were behind at the break in 14 of their 17 losses last term in addition to their last two trips here.
