Marseille v Lorient - Friday 19:45, BT Sport 1
The magnificent Stade Velodrome hosts two teams who are both yet to win this season in Marseille and Lorient. Marseille are in a state of crisis having struggled to 13th last term and are really feeling the effects of losing many of their key players over the past couple of summers. In particular Batshuayi, whose 17 Ligue 1 goals kept them away from danger, and as a result their prospects for this season look fairly bleak.
For Lorient, things aren’t much better; they’ve lost both of their matches so far whilst conceding six times and have already had three players sent off. Their away record isn’t strong either, as they only won four times on their travels last season and Sylvain Ripoll will be keen to improve his side defensively after they shipped 58 goals last term, with only relegated Troyes worse defensively.
However, both these sides are seriously lacking in confidence and we think they might cancel each other out on Friday evening. The term ‘draw-specialists’ couldn’t suit these two better, as Marseille drew 18 times last term, while Lorient had 13 stalemates. So we think there’s definite value in backing the draw at 3.8, with both sides eager to avoid another defeat already.
