Rennes v Caen - Sunday 16:00, BT Sport Europe
Rennes have been consistent performers in the last couple of seasons, finishing 9th in 2014/15 and 8th last term and after losing a tough opener at Nice they’ve since beaten Nancy at home and drawn at Montpellier prior to the international break. Caen finished a place above Rennes last term, though they were up in 2nd after 16 games, and they’ve started quickly again with two wins from their first three.
Rennes only managed seven home wins last term, the same number they picked up on the road, and their record when hosting sides between 5th and 10th in the last couple of seasons is W3-D4-L3, in games that have tended to be very low scoring as Rennes managed to net more than once in only one of these games. Seven were goalless at the break, while eight had fewer than three goals and four had fewer than two.
Caen have lost half of their 20 road games since the start of last season as they’ve struggled for goals away from the Stade Michel d'Ornano, failing to net in eight of these 20. Indeed, they drew a blank in three of their five trips to sides between 5th and 10th last term and with that in mind we’re backing both teams not to score. We also expect Rennes to struggle for goals this season after the exciting Ousmane Dembele joined Dortmund and with that in mind Under 1.5 Goals is worth a punt.
