Rennes v Marseille - Wednesday 20:00, BT Sport Extra
After a promising start to the season, Rennes turned in a surprisingly tame performance against Monaco on the weekend to lose 3-0. The decision to rest playmaker Yoann Gourcuff proved costly as they failed to create much going forward and his expected return to the starting XI should provide a major boost. Since his arrival, Rennes have won four of the seven home games he’s started compared to just two of 12 he didn’t.
Marseille’s stuttering start to the season continued with a goalless draw at home to Lyon on the weekend, meaning their only victory this term has come against bottom of the pile Lorient. OM have a W7-D7-L7 away record since the start of 2015/16 but they’ve started poorly on the road this term with two defeats as they’ve struggled without Romain Alessandrini and Lassana Diarra in the middle of the park.
Rennes’ matches this term haven’t been the greatest spectacles as the loss to Monaco was their only game to see more than two goals. They won without conceding in their opening two home games though, so against an injury-stricken Marseille, whose attack seemed toothless on Sunday, we fancy a home win and under 2.5 goals.
