LA Galaxy v Vancouver - Sunday 03:30, Sky Sports 3
Two sides struggling for form face off at the StubHub Centre in this Western Conference clash. The Galaxy are without a win in five league games and were also knocked out of the cup recently after an extra-time defeat to FC Dallas. Vancouver are similarly in a rut as they’ve lost their last four matches and have won just two of their last 13. They did beat Sporting Kansas City in the Concacaf Champions League midweek and will hope to use this as a springboard for some improved results.
Despite their recent struggles, Galaxy have an impressive home record and are yet to lose at the StubHub Centre as they’re W6-D6-L0 this term. This has been largely due to a strong and settled defence, which has conceded just 11 goals. With this in mind, it is no surprise that of the 12 games that the Galaxy have played at home seven have had fewer than three goals, including six of the last seven.
A large reason for the Whitecaps lowly league position is their struggles on the road, where they’ve had a W3-D1-L9 record. Indeed, they’ve failed to score in seven of their 13 away matches, including in each of their last five in what’s been a miserable run on their travels.
All the recent meetings between these two sides point to a home win as Galaxy have won seven of their eight games against Vancouver at the StubHub Center and we think this one will continue the trend. In those eight encounters, Vancouver have failed to score on six occasions and so we are backing Galaxy to win to nil. Furthermore, the Whitecaps chances of scoring won’t be helped by the suspension to influential winger Christian Bolanos.
