Vancouver Whitecaps v New York Red Bulls - Sunday 00:00, Sky Sports 2
The Whitecaps drew 0-0 with LA Galaxy last weekend, a result that didn’t help their push for the play-offs. They now sit four points off sixth-placed Portland with just seven games remaining. A Bradley Wright-Phillips goal helped New York to beat New England 1-0, which cemented their strong position in the Eastern Conference. They are now three points off Toronto at the top, but more importantly they are nine ahead of Orlando in 7th.
Vancouver’s draw against Galaxy ended a run of four consecutive defeats, but they’re still without a win in seven and this poor period has seen them lose significant ground on their playoff rivals. They have however been fairly strong at home (W5-D5-L3) and this has made up for their dismal away record that has seen them lose nine times. The Red Bulls have been equally bad on their travels, winning only one of 14 games and only managing to keep one clean sheet.
Their form has picked up slightly in recent times though and they’ve managed to draw their last four road games, remarkably all 2-2. However, they’re yet to beat the Whitecaps in six attempts, with three 1-1 draws in their meetings and since Vancouver have drawn half of their last six at home, we’re backing another stalemate here. We’ll also take a punt on the 1-1 correct score, to make that the scoreline in three of the four meetings between these two in Vancouver.
