Manchester United v Southampton - Friday 20:00, Sky Sports 1
Fresh from their opening day win at Bournemouth, and against Leicester the previous week in the Community Shield, Man Utd will feel confident of continuing their good start to the season at home. With the world’s most expensive player bolstering their ranks, the interesting question will be whether Man Utd start with a 4-2-3-1 as on the opening day, or switch to the 4-3-3 as they ended against Bournemouth, to accommodate the £89 million man.
In contrast, Southampton have had yet another summer of star players leaving for pastures new, with an accompanying sense of there being too few new arrivals to offset the loss. Doubts surround Jose Fonte’s future, whilst Shane Long will never be lethal up top and with Charlie Austin having lacked game time and opportunity, a considerable amount of attacking impetus will be required from the lively Nathan Redmond and Dusan Tadic, although they might not relish playing against Man Utd’s composed-looking new centre back Eric Bailly.
Given Southampton’s potential difficulties in locating a consistent goalscorer to replace Graziano Pelle, coupled with Zlatan’s excellent start to life in Manchester, at 4.33 he looks good value to be first goalscorer. The Swede has netted 39 times in 30 league starts in the league last season so bank on him adding some more as he makes his home debut.
