Bookmakers fancy the Citizens' chances following an early show of intent in the transfer window
What the bookies say?
Bookie Prediction: 1st
By his own admission, Pep’s first season as Man City manager was a massive disappointment. Despite this, the bookmakers have them as the overwhelming 2/1 favourites to win the Premier League title in 2017/18. Sheikh Mansour brought Guardiola to the club in the hope he could secure Champions League success, and the bookies make them 14/1 to win it next season, the shortest price of the English clubs.
How do punters think they will fare?
City are the fifth favourites to win the Champions League, but only 7% of punters on the winner market have backed them to go all the way. Perhaps this is not surprising given their recent form in the knockout stages and their inability to keep a clean sheet. 21% of all bets on the Premier League winners market have been placed on Man City, more than twice the market share of any other club.
Players to look out for?
According to the bookies there are a number of Man City players in the running for the player of the season award. Gabriel Jesus is as long as 25/1 and given that he’s expected to be Pep’s go-to man up-front next season, this looks a better bet than Sergio Aguero at 20/1. Belgian playmaker Kevin De Bruyne is 25/1 with David Silva at 35/1. Jesus is 6/1 to be young player of the year with Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling best price 16/1.
They have made impressive strides in the transfer window having already secured the services of Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Kyle Walker and Danilo. However, there is likely to be more to come with Ryan Bertrand, Alexis Sanchez, Dries Mertens and Danny Rose strongly linked to the club. There’s little wonder why they’re favourites to win the Premier League.
