Motherwell v Celtic – Saturday 12:15, Sky Sports 5

Celtic are flying at the top of the Premiership, with eight points and three games in hand separating them from second-placed Hearts. This weekend they make the short trip south-east to face Motherwell, who will have fond memories of beating Celtic just before Christmas last year, but who will also note with alarm that the aggregate scoreline in the four matches these two have contested across all competitions since then is 16-1 in favour of Celtic.

The big concern for Motherwell seems to be consistency. A 3-0 defeat away at Hearts last time out rather took the gloss off an accomplished 2-0 home victory over Partick Thistle two weeks ago. They’ve conceded in nine of their last 10 games, and with Celtic undefeated in their last 13 and scoring an average of 2.9 goals per game in their last 10, they will surely expect to ship more goals on Saturday. At the other end, Celtic have recorded six consecutive clean sheets in the league, and they beat Aberdeen 3-0 on Sunday in the League Cup final to claim their first piece of silverware this season– it is hard to see how any team can get near them when they’re in this sort of form.

Celtic have had Win/Win Half-Time/Full-Time results in seven of their last 11 away matches against top-half teams, and they’ll be expecting to continue their unbeaten start to the league season. We back them to win to nil.
