Lazio v Juventus - Saturday 17:00, BT Sport 1
Lazio and Juventus do battle at the Stadio Olimpico fresh off opening weekend victories. Simone Inzaghi’s second spell as caretaker got off to an electric start as his Lazio side won a thriller at Atalanta 4-3, with new signing Ciro Immobile getting on the scoresheet. Likewise Juve started their title defence with a 2-1 win against a tenacious Fiorentina side.
Despite a third place finish in 2014/15, Lazio have struggled against top-six sides in recent times, particularly at home. In the last two seasons, they’ve only won twice and have lost their other nine such matches. Their recent record against the Old Lady isn’t much to write home about either: in the last five seasons they’ve lost eight of 10 meetings while picking up just two draws.
So while we wouldn’t put you off backing Juventus at 1.87, we think it’s worth taking a chance on their new mega-money signing to bag the first goal.
Gonzalo Higuain got off the mark last week by scoring the winning goal and his record against Lazio is nothing short of outstanding. In the six games he has played against them he has scored on every occasion, notching up 11 goals in total, and he looks well worth a punt at around 5.0 to open the scoring in this one.
