Empoli v Crotone – Monday 19:45, BT Sport 1
Empoli and Crotone are two of only three sides in Serie A who are yet to pick up a point this season. It was always going to be a tough campaign for Crotone who are featuring in the top division for the first time in their history, while Empoli haven’t helped themselves by picking up a red card in each of their opening two games.
However, a home fixture against a newly promoted side represents the perfect opportunity for Empoli to get the first win of the season under their belts. With the players still getting used to their new manager, a price of 1.61 to win is more a reflection of their opponent’s weakness rather than their form.
Crotone are as short as 1.5 to get relegated and could really struggle on their travels this season after going a relatively modest W8-D8-L5 in Serie B last term. The loss of their two top scorers in the transfer window certainly won’t help their cause either and it’s been reflected in their opening games as they’ve found the net just once.
Empoli are yet to find the net but played well against Udinese last time out, only for their inefficiency in front of goal to cost them dearly. Forward Massimo Maccarone was suspended for that game but he returns here and the Tuscan side have scored 33% more goals with him in the starting line-up in the last couple of seasons. With this in mind we’ll back the home side to pick up their first win of the season but we don’t expect them to run away with it given their lack of goals, so we’re backing Empoli to win and Under 2.5 Goals.
