Nick Scholfield takes you through his rides this weekend at Chepstow and Fontwell.
13.55 – Champagne Champ
He ran his first race over hurdles the other week and did well, placing third. He was rated in the 90s at one point over the flats but has made the switch well. Hopefully the further distance and improved ground this week will bring out a bit more in him, but he will have to run well to best Blu Cavalier, who in my mind is the one to beat.
15.40 – This Is It
This horse is co-owned by Harry Redknapp, and has been put up seven which isn’t ideal. He’s going to have to step up in this competitive race but he’s ran well over course and distance with no weight on his back, which gives me confidence.
16.50 – Beallandendall
He finished second at Ludlow in December and performed really well that day. If he can produce something similar to that Saturday then he won’t be far away. It’s a nice and open race and I’m very hopeful for him.
15.55 – Darcy Ward
She ran her first race under rules on soft ground last month at Taunton. She’s got a 10lb penalty but I’m hoping she can defy that nicely. The main danger is Call Me Sid, if we can get in front of him then I think we will be in a very good position.
16.55 – Canyouringmeback
It’s a step up in trip for him to two miles five, but I think it’s going to be a massive positive. He should appreciate the distance and this is definitely horse going the right way, he ran well at Fontwell before and I’m hoping he can do the same again.
17.25 – L’chamise
She’s finished 5th and 6th in listed bumpers, but he ran better than the numbers suggest. She always gives her best and hopefully have a go at The Flying Sofa, who has impressed me whenever he has ran.
