Now Williams faces Garbine Muguruza who I almost backed at the start of the tournament. The Spaniard dealt with Sam Stosur fairly readily and, bar a dreadful first set in her opener round against Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova, she has probably been the best player this fortnight.
Muguruza was the last woman to beat Williams at Roland Garros, in the second round two years ago, and I think she should be favourite given Williams' obvious physical struggles. Unlike Williams, the fourth seed had a day off between her quarter-final and semi-final and her last two matches have been far more routine than the world number one's. I am surprised to see Muguruza as big as 6-4 and I will be taking that as well as the 7-2 about her winning her first Grand Slam in straight sets.
