We’re on the comeback trail largely thanks to Juan Martin del Potro and I hope we can continue to improve as the tournament progresses after a dismal start.
The fixture backlog has necessitated play of the middle Sunday although it’s probably time this was introduced as a matter of course.
Just one match interests me today but it interests me greatly as I feel Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is an inexplicably big price to beat Timea Bacsinszky. The Russian has been pretty impressive thus far and Bacsinszky is susceptible to a big-hitter, particularly on a fast surface. Indeed, Pavlyuchenkova marmalised her in Brisbane at the start of the year with the Swiss winning just 36 percent of points on her first serve.
Unless that was simply a bad day at the office, it is hard to see Bacsinszky reversing that form if Pavlyuchenkova is on song although that cannot be guaranteed with ‘Nastia’ perfectly capable of throwing in a shocker. But the prices on offer mean we can definitely afford to take our chances.
