Reality TV betting expert Tim Booth has two bets for this series of Celebrity Big Brother.
Three contenders have broken away from the pack in the outright; Scotty T, Gemma Collins and Darren Day. At the moment, it does look like one of them is likely to be crowned the winner, but there’s an awful long way to go. Looking at the field, you get the feeling that one of the British housemates is likely to come out on top.
Womaniser Scotty T is a popular character from MTV’s Geordie Shore, which has form in producing reality show winners in Charlotte Crosby on CBB and, more recently, Vicky Pattison on I’m a Celebrity. He undoubtedly has a large fanbase, but you have to question whether or not Scotty T is as interesting to watch as Charlotte and Vicky were in their respective shows. I would argue that he isn’t. To me, he seems like a nice guy, but he’s much more one dimensional as a character. He isn’t vulnerable, doesn’t tend to show emotions and his showmance with Megan McKenna gives him a storyline which will be repellent to much of the voting audience. The market has him as 11/4 favourite, but it’s probably worth looking elsewhere for now.

Ex-TOWIE star Gemma Collins is next at 9/2. She has been given a lot of airtime in the first week and is clearly a producer favourite. In terms of Top Female, she has just gone odds-on at around 4/5, and is looking a worthy favourite in that market. Like Scotty T, though, she is clearly one of the more divisive housemates, and a very long list of TOWIE stars have tried and failed to win reality shows in the past. However, she is definitely providing entertainment at the moment and this could well make a difference at the business end of the competition.
Former "Love Rat" Darren Day is currently a best-priced 4/1. He has a made a very good start and definitely seems like one of the nicest people in the house. Traditionally, a big factor in winning CBB has been someone who has successfully changed the public’s perception, which can be a big motivator to vote. In this series, Darren looks the prime candidate to change perceptions, and the public can be known to get behind a comeback story. As someone who should have a lot of appeal to the middle-aged women voters, Darren is my pick to win at the moment - although it’s still early days.
Similarly to Darren, Former EastEnders actress Danniella Westbrook has a comeback narrative of her own. She is known to the public as an ex-drug addict who dominated tabloids throughout the 2000s and beyond. Unlike Gemma Collins, she seems particularly vulnerable and is a mother on the outside world. This could well help voters to identify with Danniella, and you can tell that the experience means a lot to her. It is perhaps a stretch to envisage her winning, but she currently looks the value call in the Top Female market at 9/2.
