Super Bowl Historical Results Breakdown
The NFL tradition will live on for another year as we head to Super Bowl 58 between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. The tradition arguably began in 1984 when Jim Burt threw a cooler of Gatorade on Bill Parcells after the Giants beat Washington in a mid-season 1984 matchup. There are some clips of football players throwing Gatorade at their coaches a year prior. But it started to stick in the NFL when Burt did it. Burt didn't like how he was treated in practice before that game against Washington. Therefore, he threw Gatorade on Bill Parcells for revenge after the game. The Giants kept doing it after wins in 1984, and the tradition has stuck ever since.
This year, the color Purple opened up as the favorite at +200. It's now down to +150. Ultimately, the Chiefs used purple Gatorade last year after winning the Super Bowl against the Eagles in Super Bowl 57. However, Orange Gatorade has started to gain some steam on the betting board. It's sitting around +325 at most books. This was the color that the Chiefs used when they beat the 49ers in 2020. Orange has also been the most used color of Gatorade since it's been kept track. Meanwhile, there was a time when the uniform color helped make decisions. Therefore, some people believe the Chiefs and 49ers will use the color red, since that's a primary color for both teams. However, we haven't seen red since it's been kept track. Still, we were all shocked by purple last year. Red could be the surprise of this year.
