New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros Prediction: Can Hunter Brown, Astros Grab First Win of Season Tonight?

The Houston Astros and New York Yankees meet in game three of the regular season from Minute Maid Park. The Yankees have taken both games after they have come back both times and beat the Astros to start 2–0 on the season. The Astros are favored once again at home behind Hunter Brown starting on the mound. Can they right the ship and get to 1-2 on the season tonight?

New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros Prediction

The story for this series so far has been defense. In game one, the Astros blew a lead and had a chance to come back in the bottom of the ninth. Juan Soto threw an absolute laser from right field to tag out Mauricio Dubon at home, a play that would’ve tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. Instead, the Yankees won 5–4. In game two yesterday, the Astros were up 1-0 before two errors cost them several chances to get out of the inning. Ultimately, the Yankees scored seven runs and beat the Astros 7-1. The Astros will have to be better defensively to win game three, and I believe they will right the ship and not have a two-error game again. The starting pitcher for the Yankees tonight will be Marcus Stroman. Stroman is in the pinstripes this season after spending the last two seasons with the Cubs. Last season, he had an ERA of 3.95 and a pitcher win record of 10–9 across 25 starts. Stroman should be a good addition to this Yankees starting rotation, but he has a stiff test against this Astros lineup. The starting pitcher for the Astros will be Hunter Brown. Brown is in his third season in the MLB and third season with the Astros. In 2022, he had just seven games played, but he had a .89 ERA in those seven games. Last year, he had a bit of a shakier time, sporting a 5.09 ERA over 29 starts. I still like his pitch arsenal and feel that he is growing as a pitcher, as he is still very young, and he had a very good spring. The fact that the Astros have started 0–2 and are starting a pitcher who had a 5.09 ERA last season and are still decently favored over one of the most popular teams in America leads me to believe that the Astros are going to win this game. The line is screaming in the Astros' direction, and I trust that they can right the ship on some defensive errors that cost them the game yesterday and hold on to the lead to avoid a potential sweep.
