I couldn’t pick between wanting to back Skenes or Severino, so I went with both. This game has an encouraging total of 7.5, which makes me think this is a pitching duel from the jump. Both teams have shaky bullpens, so I much prefer only having exposure to the first five innings here.
New York Mets vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction
First off, we have Luis Severino. He has already faced off against Pittsburgh this year, and went six innings not allowing one earned run. An unearned run came through, but he pitched great and you would hope his defense does their job behind him. He has a 3.42 ERA on the year, and has only really gotten knocked around by the scarier lineups in the league.
Lastly, we have Paul Skenes. This kid is something special. He has only allowed 12 runs over 52.1 innings pitched this year. He has a 2.06 ERA, and has allowed just three runs over his last four games combined. The Mets offense could only muster one hit yesterday, and now get the guy who throws the fastest in the league. I expect the young stud to shove today. Let's roll!
