Only two other games in NBA history closed with a total of 250 or higher, and both went over by a lot. Coincidentally, one of these games was the Hawks/Pacers game last year that closed with a total of 250 and ended in a 143-130 Hawks win, hitting 273 combined points. Indiana Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks Prediction
With such a high total and fast-paced game expected, I am locking in a player prop over. The player I like the most here is Clint Capela. The Pacers rank first overall in pace by the NBA's metrics, and the Hawks come in at third in pace. This game will see a lot of possessions and quick shots, favoring the overs on player props. There are a lot of options, and of course, Haliburton, Murray, and Trae Young will be popular picks, but I'm going with someone who might fly under the radar a bit in this matchup.
Clint Capela is the Hawks center, and he doesn't usually light up the scoreboard, but he will have a chance to tonight. The Pacers do not have a very good defense. They rank 26th in defensive efficiency, and they struggle in the paint. The Pacers rank 30th in two-pointers allowed per game, allowing 70.7 points inside the arc this season, which is even lower than the Wizards and Mavericks, two other bad defenses.
The Pacers have been struggling defending the paint, and of course, that goes hand-in-hand with struggling against Centers. The Pacers give up a lot of points, but none more than to centers. With the nature of this game being fast-paced and high-scoring, Capela should get plenty of looks down low. He is averaging 10.2 points this season, so all we need is one more point than his season average in the game, with the highest total in NBA history against the team giving up the most points to centers in the league. Capela to score 15+ is +300 on DraftKings, which seems free as well.
