Yale vs. Quinnipiac Prediction
Yale against Quinnipiac might not seem like the most exciting matchup on paper, but I can’t get over how big of a favorite the Bulldogs are on the road in this spot. Yale is coming off a 75-71 loss to Fairfield as -16.5 favorites at home. They’ve lost three of their last four games, and they were favorites in all of them.
Yale is laying 8.5 points because their slow tempo is going to make Quinnipiac extremely uncomfortable. I bet and watched Navy against Quinnipiac last week, and the Midshipmen did a great job of slowing the tempo. They made the Bobcats play their style of game, and that’s exactly what Yale (the 256th fastest team in the country) is going to do.
Yale might have a worse record than the Bobcats, but they are still highly respected by KenPom (where they are ranked 112th). Quinnipiac is ranked 276th in KemPom, They’ve also had one of the easiest schedules in the nation this season (326th SOS), compared to Yale who’s played some tough teams (113 SOS).
The Bulldogs will have the best player on the floor tonight in Matt Knowling. He hasn’t gotten off to the best start this season, hence their underwhelming early-season results. I’m willing to bet Matt Knowling drops a season-high in points against this weak Quinnipiac defense. They are ranked 220th in defensive efficiency this season.
Quinnipiac is lucky their early-season schedule has been so easy. If Navy was almost able to knock off the Bobcats at home last week, I’m fully expecting the Yale Bulldogs to play the same slow style as the Midshipmen, only better. Fade the Bobcats, and back the Bulldogs on the spread; they are winning this game by 10+ points.
