Georgia Tech vs. Florida State Prediction: Should You Back Jamir Watkins, Seminoles?

It’s been a tough couple of years for Leonard Hamilton’s Florida State Seminoles. Once an elite program not too long ago, Florida State is once again .500 and barely treading water to start the season. Coming off a loss to Lipscomb, will we see the Seminoles bounce back with a win, and, more importantly, a cover against Georgia Tech on Wednesday?

Georgia Tech vs. Florida State Prediction

Georgia Tech hasn’t played since before Christmas, but they had a great tournament out in Hawaii before losing to Nevada in the Championship. The Yellow Jackets are 8-4 led by star guard Miles Kelly. Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets, Florida State presents a tough matchup on Wednesday…

Florida State has some brutal losses in December. They are 2-4 this month with bad losses to USF, SMU and Lipscomb in their last game. It can’t get much worse for the Seminoles, who will be looking to start fresh with conference play starting up on Wednesday.

Take whatever you know about the Seminoles this season and throw it out the window. They might have just lost to Lipscomb, but I love backing teams off brutal losses, and Georgia Tech is simply too small to hang with Florida State. Their biggest guy is 6’7” while the Seminoles have plenty of size. Coach Hamilton has always built his rosters to be tall, fast and athletic, and his team this season is no different.

I’m willing the bet the Yellow Jackets struggle to match up with the Seminoles tonight. Baye Ndongo has been a solid option for Georgia Tech in the paint, but the freshman is only 6’7” and will have his hands full against Jamir Watkins, Cam Corhen, Baba Miller and De’Ante Green tonight.

Florida State struggles shooting the ball, but that won’t matter against Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets will be getting bodied in the paint and outran on fast-breaks all game. Back Florida State to cover the spread at home in their ACC home opener.
