BYU vs. Oklahoma Prediction: Can Javian McCollum, Sooners Get Back On Track Against Cougars?

Oklahoma has been struggling lately as they have dropped three out of their last four games, including two straight home losses to Texas and Texas Tech. Can they bounce back tonight against BYU? Let’s break it down.

BYU vs. Oklahoma Prediction

Oklahoma has been a strong team all season, but they have had a bit of a rough stretch lately as they have lost three of their last four, including losses to Texas, Texas, Tech, and UCF. In their games against Texas and UCF, they struggled mightily to score as they shot under 40% from the field in both of those contests, and shot a combined 9 of 35 from deep for a percentage of 26%… not good.

While Oklahoma’s offensive struggles have been a common theme for most of the season, they still enter this game with a record of 16-6, and have a lot to play for. They have been a much better team at home this season as well, where they have an 11-2 record. I believe this is an excellent spot for them to bounce back tonight against a BYU squad who hasn’t been great on the road and hasn’t been a great defensive team.

BYU enters this game ranked 21st with a record of 16-5, but they are just 2-3 on the road this season. Their road wins came against West Virginia (8-14) and UCF (13-8), who are not even close to the cream of the crop in the B12. BYU has a high powered offense, but they have really struggled to defend away from home as they allowed 73 to WVU, 85 to Texas Tech in a seven point loss, 81 to Baylor in a nine point loss, and 73 to Utah in a closer four point loss. BYU loves to play fast, but that may not be a great recipe for success tonight against a stifling Oklahoma defense. I could see this game playing out very similarly to the Miami versus Virginia game from last night, where Miami’s high powered offense ran into a brick wall against UVA.

Oklahoma is extremely athletic at every position on the floor and they take pride in their defensive effort above all else, and I think BYU will struggle to find consistency on the offensive end in this matchup. I also expect Oklahoma to shoot better at home as they are due for some positive regression in that department after a fairly rough two week stretch. With that being said, I am rolling with Oklahoma moneyline at -120 odds for two units as my most confident college basketball play of the day (POD) for tonight’s action. I believe the Sooners rectify their recent woes and come out victorious tonight.
