There is one west-coast matchup going on in the WAC that’s caught my eye. Let’s dive into one of my favorite plays of the day…

Tarleton State vs. Utah Valley Prediction
Utah Valley has a great start to the 2023-2024 season, with some big wins against respected mid-majors like Southern Miss, Seattle and Weber State. It hasn’t been a great 2024 for the Wolverines, though. Utah Valley has struggled offensively for much of the new year, but they have a great opportunity to pull off an upset against one of the best teams in the WAC tonight.
Tarleton State has had a great season overall, and they are currently playing their best basketball of the season, but the Texans don’t have the greatest matchup tonight. Utah Valley has a solid interior defense, and Tarleton relies heavily on scoring in the paint. Two of their best three scorers are 6’6” forwards. I’m willing to bet they struggle against Caleb Stone-Carrawell and Trevin Dorius, the 7’0” center, tonight.
Five of the Texans’ seven losses have come on the road this season, and the Wolverines have defended their home floor nicely. Utah Valley has a great opportunity to turn around their season, and catch Tarleton sleeping with a matchup at Seattle this weekend in their sights. Talk about a lookahead spot…
I was a little surprised to see Utah Valley as the betting favorite against the red-hot Texans. It seems like oddsmakers are “tipping their hand” a little with this line. The Wolverines are public, but the splits are sharp (per VSIN). Big bets are being placed on Utah Valley both on the spread and moneyline. With the total inching up, I feel comfortable laying the points with Utah Valley in this spot. The increasing total tells me this UVU offense just might wake up at home tonight, earning themselves a much-needed upset.
