Texas State vs. Coastal Carolina Prediction
In three of those games, they were actually betting underdogs as well, largely due to the injuries they have suffered to key positions on both sides of the ball but mainly at the quarterback position as they Chanticleers have been without star quarterback and longtime starter, Grayson McCall. Coastal Carolina has been getting it done on the ground, even without McCall, as they totaled 278 rushing yards against ODU, 145 yards rushing against Marshall, 186 rushing yards against Arkansas State, and 196 yards on the ground against App State.
Coastal Carolina now catches Texas State off their most impressive performance of the season as they beat Georgia Souther by three touchdowns at home last week. There is also a bit of a trend forming with Sun Belt teams. Goergia Southern blew out GA State at home as a small favorite and then went on the road to Texas Stare. big let down spot for GA Southern and they got blown out. Now that same let down spot falls onto Texas State after their blowout win at home of Georgia Southern, and now they have to go on the road in a let down spot against a Coastal Carolina squad who I believe is being undervalued by the market without McCall.
Texas State's defense has also been the weakness of their team to this point as they are ranked 80th in yards allowed per pass attempt (7.6), 70th in yards allowed per play (5.5), and 123rd in defensive third down conversion percentage allowed (48%). Texas State simply does not do a good job at getting off the field on third downs and I think Coastal Carolina will be able to have a lot of success on the ground which should get them into a lot of third and manageables against this below average Texas State front seven.
On the road this season, Texas State allowed 34 points and 423 yards to ULL, 36 points and 510 yards to the corpse that is Southern Miss, 20 points and 372 yards in a loss to UTSA, and 31 points and 524 total yards to Baylor all the way back in Week 1. This will also be the first road game for Texas State since October 7th as they had a front-loaded road schedule and I think this could affect both their offensive and defensive efficiency as they have played better ball at home. With that being said, I am rolling with Coastal Carolina +3 at -120 for 2U as I think the Chanticleers keep this game close and likely win straight up in a game with Sun Belt title ramifications.
