Tonight, Pitt welcomes the 6-4 Boston College Eagles into town for this Thursday night ACC showdown. Will the Panthers break out of their slump in their last home game of the season, or will the Eagles continue to over-perform in 2023?

The Boston College Eagles have won their last three road games in a row, a trend that simply cannot continue. The book might be out on duel-threat QB Thomas Castellanos who’s struggled in recent weeks. If you put some pressure on Castellanos and limit his rush attempts, BC’s offensive success plummets. Expect the Panthers’ defensive front to blitz BC early and often in this contest, rattling Castellanos. The Hokies rattled Castellanos with two interceptions in the first quarter last week; if you pressure this team, their young QB will continue to struggle.
Christian Veilleux has shown flashes of being the future piece for Pitt under center, but he will probably be without star TE Gavin Bartholomew who left their last game with a lower leg injury. Expect a heavy dosage of Pitt’s running back Rodney Hammond, their best remaining player left on offense.
We saw what the Hokies were able to do on the ground against Boston College last week with over 350 yards on the ground. Rodney Hammond has a great matchup in Pitt’s backfield tonight against the 108th-ranked rush defense in the nation. The Eagles have given up an absurd 221 YPG on the ground in their last three games on average.
I was shocked to see Pittsburgh as the betting favorite against a much better BC team tonight, but after looking at the matchups it’s starting to make a little more sense. The public is slamming the Eagles in a bounce-back spot against an underwhelming Pitt team, and I don’t blame them, but I’ll be fading the public in this spot. Give me the Pitt Panthers in their last home game of the season to get a much-needed win against an overrated BC team.
