Bowling Green vs. Western Michigan Prediction
This is an interesting matchup between 2 teams who really do not have much to play for. Bowling Green has already been eliminated from contention for the MAC title game and they are already bowl eligible as they enter this matchup with a record of 6-5 after their close loss to Toledo last week. On the other side, Western Michigan is having a below average season as they come into this game with a record of 4-7 as they played a fairly tough non-conference schedule and also under performed in conference play. While Western Michigan has not a better team overall than Bowling Green this season, I do think they are in a good spot tonight to put forth a great effort.
This is their last game of the season and the last game in the career of a lot of their seniors and skill players. They are at home, and I fully expect them to have some pride and lay it all on the line. They have also played better at home this season as they are 3-1 straight up at home this season with their only loss coming to Miami OH who is 9-2 and in the MAC title game. The Broncos blew out blew out Ball State and Eastern Michigan and took care of business against Central Michigan in a back-and-forth game where they ended up winning 38-28. Bowling Green comes into Kalamazoo in a very odd spot.
This is a game that essentially means nothing to them as they are already bowl eligible and this is the definition of a sleepy midweek road spot where they could come out very flat after a heartbreaking loss to Toledo last week in a game where they once led 28-10. It is also possible that Bowling Green may rest a few players who are dealing with injury to further prepare and heal for their likely upcoming bowl game. Another thing about Bowling Green is that they have had an insanely easy conference schedule and also had some of the best turnover luck in the country when it comes to recovering fumbles. The Falcons were blown out in conference play by Ohio and Miami OH by a combined score of 65-7 while Western Michigan was actually very competitive against Ohio as they nearly upset the Bobcats on the road but lost by a close score of 20-17. WMU was also competitive against Miami OH as they scored 21 points while Bowling Green was held scoreless in a 27-0 loss.
This should be a very close game tonight, but I do see the regression bug hitting Bowling Green tonight after a few covers/wins in a row, and I think Western Michigan has a significant motivation edge in this final mid-week MACtion showdown. With that being said, I am rolling with Western Michigan +3 at -116 for 1.5 units as one of my most confident college football plays of the day for tonight's action as I think the Broncos get the job done at home tonight.
