As a proud Virginia Tech alum, if you would have told me the Hokies were laying more than ten points against Tulane a couple months ago, I would call you crazy. With the recent opt outs of Tulane’s starting QB, best wide receiver and tight end, and their coach opting out after taking the Houston job, this spread makes a little more sense. Here’s my best bet in this Military Bowl matchup.

Virginia Tech vs. Tulane Prediction
The Hokies have a handful of guys sitting out for this contest, but the majority of their starters, even the ones entering the portal, have committed to play on Wednesday. This team is building some serious momentum at the tail-end of the season. Besides their dud of a loss to Louisville, this Kyron Drones-led offense has shined over the last few months. He will have all of his weapons available on Wednesday.
There is rain in the forecast in Annapolis on Wednesday, which benefits the Hokies. Their rushing attack has totaled an average of nearly 250 yards per game on the ground over their last three games. Tulane’s rush defense has been solid this season, but they’ve given up nearly 140 yards per game on average over their last three games. They haven’t faced a rushing attack that’s looked as sharp as the Hokies, either. This could be a long day for Tulane’s defense, who will be without all three of their starting linebackers on Wednesday.
If the weather is going to be as sloppy as everyone’s saying it is, the Hokies will be able to run the ball down Tulane’s throats. This defense will be struggling with a ton of opt-outs, and with no Michael Pratt under center for the Green Wave, their defense is going to be on the field a lot on Wednesday.
This spread opened up at VT -4.5, with the news of their coach taking the Houston job and moving on before the Bowl game. The spread is all the way up to 10.5 with numerous key starters now opting out for Tulane. Motivation is a key factor in capping these Bowl games, and it’s clear the Hokies will be the more motivated team on Wednesday with all their starters opting in.
Fade the Green Wave, and back the Hokies to tear up Tulane on the ground in a rain-game, winning this game by 2+ touchdowns. Coach Pry is starting to build some momentum in Blacksburg; expect that to carry into the Military Bowl.
