Washington vs. Michigan Prediction
Blake Corum has turned into one of the best running backs in the country this season. He carved-up Alabama’s rushing defense in the Rose Bowl, averaging nearly five yards per carry. The senior running back from Marshall, Virginia wasn’t as dominant down the stretch against some elite rush defenses, but he has scored at least two touchdowns in each of his last six games.
Washington’s rush defense ranks outside the top-40 this season. On average they’ve given up nearly 140 yards per game on the ground this year. After J.J. McCarthy’s sketchy start to the Alabama game, I’m fully expecting Michigan to establish the run early and often in this contest.
Do I think Blake Corum soars over his rushing yards prop tonight? I absolutely do, but that’s not my favorite angle in this game. I want to back Corum to find pay dirt 2+ times tonight, just like he’s done in each of his last six games. It’s rare you see a college athlete barely at plus-money to score twice, but tonight Corum is just (+105) to find the end zone twice. Oddsmakers aren’t letting us cash big on a play Corum has smacked in ten of his fourteen games this season.
I’m not going to lie, it looked like J.J. McCarthy was seeing ghosts in the beginning of the Rose Bowl last weekend. He did finally settle in, but I’m fully expecting Coach Harbaugh to eliminate any risk of turnovers by running an extremely conservative offense. I’m willing to bet the Wolverines lean on their defense to win them this game tonight.
Michigan didn’t even play well last week and they still beat a very-good Alabama team. They are probably going to win this game tonight behind a legacy performance from Blake Corum. If you’re looking for more value, he is (+400) to win the National Championship MVP award, and I’d be shocked if he doesn’t win it if Corum scores twice tonight. Maybe sprinkle a little on Michigan’s star running back to be crowned MVP; with the way he’s been playing recently. He’s certainly earned it!
