Thursday Night Football Same Game Parlay: Bet on Jared Goff to Have a Big Night

Packers fans have their eyes on revenge in tonight's divisional matchup between the Lions and Packers. If you remember, the Packers had a chance at the playoffs last year in their final game at home against the Lions, but the Lions spoiled the Packer's hopes by beating them and knocking them out of the playoffs. Tonight is a chance for new starting quarterback Jordan Love and the Packers to get back at them, although they find themselves as short underdogs tonight. I have a +702 same-game parlay I love for this game. Let's get into it.

Thursday Night Football Same Game Parlay

Leg 1: Lions -2

The Packers may be hell-bent on revenge, but I don't think they are the overall better team. Jared Goff seems to be warming up in year three in Detroit, and the Lions are looking like a solid football team. Goff and the Lions have started 2-1 with the lone loss coming in overtime to the Seahawks, who were a playoff team last season. They also have a win against the defending Super Bowl champs, the Chiefs. Meanwhile, the Packers are 2-1 playing two mediocre teams and one bad team. The Packers beat the Bears, who are in an abysmal state right now, then lost to the Falcons, then nearly lost to the Saints before a 17-point fourth-quarter comeback that only happened because Derek Carr got injured and the Saints' offense stalled.

The Lions being -2 in this game means the books think the Lions would be around -4 or -4.5 in a neutral site, and the Lions already proved they can come into Green Bay and beat them with this team. Jared Goff is 10-2 against the spread against the NFC North since joining the Packers, and Dan Campbell is building something special in Detroit. The Lions are currently favored at +100 to win the division. As a Vikings fan, this is hard to say, but the Lions are the best team in the NFC North.

Leg 2: Jared Goff 250+ Passing Yards

Jared Goff has been hitting his stride in 2023. He's now 28 years old and arguably hitting his prime. He's already made a Super Bowl, so we know he has that in him, and now it's looking like the Lions may have an outside shot to do so. Of course, they will run into at least a few of the powerhouses like the Cowboys, 49ers, or Eagles, but the Lions just showed us they can beat Super Bowl-caliber opponents by beating the Chiefs on the road (albeit without Travis Kelce and Chris Jones). Still, this is looking like it could be Goff's year.

In 2021, Goff's first year in Detroit, the Lions went 3-10-1 in Goff's games and he only averaged 231 passing yards per game. Then, last year, Goff went 9-8 in 17 games, averaging 261 passing yards per game. This season, in three games played so far, Goff is averaging 273 passing yards per game. Catching my drift? The Lions finished last season 8-2 over their last 10 games, nearly making the playoffs, which is why they had a lot of hype coming into the season.

Goff is looking comfortable with this current team, and the Lions have David Montgomery back tonight, which can help set up the play action which will give Goff some opportunities for big plays. With Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta, the Lions passing offense is looking scary. Goff has hit over 250 yards in two of three games so far this season, and in the game he missed he had 243.

Leg 3: Romeo Doubs 50+ Receiving Yards

Romeo Doubs is a beast. Christian Watson is the big story of this team, but I would say Doubs is actually my favorite receiver on the Packers. Last year, Doubs finished fifth among all rookies with 42 receptions and 10 among all rookies with 425 yards. While Doubs has fewer yards (129) than Jayden Reed (148) for the lead on the team, that doesn't tell the whole story.

Doubs was injured coming into the season and only played 48% of snaps in week one, and was reportedly still dealing with that hamstring injury even in week two. He had 26 yards in week one and then 30 yards in week two. Last week, in week three, the first week Doubs was finally "injury-free", Doubs had 12 targets for 5 receptions (no drops) for 73 yards. Coincidence? I don't think so. Doubs rounds out a very young receiving corp that is still dealing with the Christian Watson injury, even if Watson is "expected to play" tonight. Watson will almost certainly be limited is his snap share, and Doubs has a sneaky chance to be the leading receiver tonight.
