We got screwed on this same type of wager last week but I don't care because this week we are backing Rory McIlroy. But what's the difference between Tony Finau and McIlroy?
Well, one of them has 38 professional victories, four major championships, a win percentage of about 10% in all of his starts on TOUR and is ranked second in the world behind Scottie Scheffler. That would be the man from Northern Ireland. I hate the price for him outright and would never bite on something so cheap free tournament but I like him to place.

I was doing a lot of research on the different strokes gained statistics. There are obvious ones, everyone knows Rory gains strokes off the tee and loses strokes putting relative to the field in every event. but what's the big thing here? In comparison to the field, there are just eight golfers in the field that have gained 40+ strokes in their last 36 rounds in the category of Total Strokes Gained Difficult Scoring Conditions.
There are only three who have gained more than 50, Tom Kim at 52, Matthew Fitzpatrick at 57.2 and Rory McIlory at 89. EIGHTY NINE. Not only is that smoking the rest of the field, it's forty strokes north of the second man in the field, the 2022 U.S. Open champion.
Say what you want about McIlroy struggling and not finishing, hell I will agree; I love the man and it pains me to see him consistently come so close in these Major Championships and not get his fifth.
With that said, the 2012 Honda Classic winner with a victory on this course is the best player in this field by a massive margin and it would be shocking to me if it he is not in the final five pairings on Sunday. Even a bad day on this course for him should see him shooting well due to his length and ability to get home so often. I like Rory to finish up near the top this week.
