New York Islanders vs. Vancouver Canucks Prediction: Can Elias Pettersson, Canucks Stay Hot at Home?
The Canucks host the Islanders tonight in Vancouver after a two-day break after beating the Canadiens 5-2 last time out. The Canucks are one of the hottest teams in the NHL right now, sporting a 9-1-1 record over their last 11 games, which is up there with the Bruins, Knights, Rangers, and Stars, who are all leading their respective divisions. The Islanders, meanwhile, have had a harsh drop-off in production so far this season, as they are currently third-lowest in points in the Eastern Conference. The Islanders have now lost five in a row, and Lane Lambert's seat may be getting warm in New York. The Islanders are +140 underdogs in Vancouver tonight. Can the Canucks stay hot?

New York Islanders vs. Vancouver Canucks Prediction
The highlight of this Canucks team has been the offense. The Canucks rank first in the NHL with 4.4 goals per game. The Canucks have actually not been the best in five-on-five play, but they have one of the best power play units in the league, ranking third with a 31.6% scoring rate on the man advantage. The Islanders have been one of the defensive teams on the power play, allowing a goal on 26.1% of power plays, ranking 25th in the NHL.
Brock Boeser is leading the way for the Canucks with 12 goals this season, while J.T. Miler is right there behind him with 9. Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes have also been lighting it up with 25 and 23 points respectively on the season.
Aside from elite scoring, Thatcher Demko has also been exceeding expectations. He is first in the NHL with 1.95 goals against per game, and he has a 93.5% save rate. He goes up against an Islanders team that is last in the NHL offensively with 2.36 goals per game, and the Islanders have failed to score more than two goals in four straight. Ilya Sorokin has also been struggling, as he is 0-4 in his last four games with an 89.8% save rate in that span.
This game is simply a mismatch on offense and in the net. Sorokin is really struggling this season, and Demko is making an early case for a Vezina vote. The Canucks offense has been electric, while the Islanders can't find any answers on offense, even on the power play. The Canucks are 5-0-1 at home and are tied at the top of the NHL with 23 points on the season. This line could be closer to -200, but we are getting -155 on DraftKings. I will happily lay that with the much better offense and goalie tonight.
