Winnipeg Jets vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction: Can Jets Put Up Goals Against Ilya Samsonov, Leafs?

The Winnipeg Jets will continue their road trip tonight, this time against the Toronto Maple Leafs. They lost a tough one to the Boston Bruins on Monday night, but have been hot over their last 10 games. Can the Jets put pucks past Ilya Samsonov and the Leafs on Wednesday night? Ben Rajavuori provides his best bet in Jets vs. Leafs.

Winnipeg Jets vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction: Can Jets Put Up Goals Against Ilya Samsonov, Leafs?

The Winnipeg Jets hit the road tonight and travel to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs. The Jets enter this game as the best team in the central division, sitting at 64 points, one ahead of the Avalanche. The Jets have the third-most points in the NHL right now and are 8–2 in their last 10 games, but they are coming off a loss against the Bruins that they will try and bounce back from today. The Maple Leafs play in a much harder division and currently sit in fourth place in the Atlantic division with 54 points. The Leafs are 5-5 over their last 10 games but picked up a win last time out against the Kraken. The Leafs are -150 favorites to beat the traveling Jets tonight at home. Can they do it?

Winnipeg Jets vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction

A lot of the Jets' success this season has come behind very consistent and elite goaltender play. Connor Hellebuyck has been incredible in the net, sitting at a 23–8–3 record, while holding a 92.5% save rate and 2.17 goals allowed per game. However, Hellebuyck will not be in the net tonight, as it will be the backup Laurent Brossoit in the net. Brossoit has been one of the best backups in the NHL this season, and has consistently delivered in his limited action this year. He is 7–3-1 in his 11 starts, holding a 92.3% save rate and 2.18 goals allowed per game. Brossoit has been very hot over his last six starts, going 5-1 and boasting an incredibly high 95.2% save rate. With him in the net, the Jets have a chance in any game, as he has been dialed in between the pipes. On the other side, the Leafs will send out Ilya Samsonov. Samsonov is in his second year with the Maple Leafs, and this has been the worst year of his career by far. He is just 6-3–6 this season while holding a very low 86.6% save rate and a very high 3.69 goals allowed per game. Samsonov is coming off one of his best outings of the season against the Kraken, where he saved 16 of 17 shots in a 3-1 win. However, this was his first good start in a long time, and he has a lot of work to do to improve his numbers on the season.

The Maple Leafs have more star players with William Nylander, Auston Matthews, and Mitch Marner, but the Winnipeg Jets are a very deep team that is more balanced down the lines. The Jets have posted one of the best defenses in the NHL this season behind consistent goalie play, and I expect their depth to be enough to beat the Leafs on the road today. The Jets enter this game hot, winning eight of their last 10 games, and I like getting plus money on this team that has looked like one of the best Jets teams in a while and is also second in the Western Conference in points.
