Normal service resumed at Augusta. Jordan Spieth has held the lead there for as long back as I can remember. Even when he is not on top of his game his mental strength not to drop any silly shots (a la Jason Day) sets him apart from the rest. If he continues in that form they can send for the same size of Green Jacket as last year.

Yesterday Charley Hoffman could only manage a tie with Westwood so we get our stakes back. Gomez never figured in his three ball, so along with that and Day collapsing on the back 9 it was a very disappointing day. We'll plough on regardless as we must do in search of another winner or two.

I was tempted by Troy Merritt yesterday and was annoyed I didn't go with him. Today we will. Byeong Hun An is struggling badly with a neck injury and seems to be going through the motions because it is such a big event. He shot 5 over yesterday to Troy's 2 over. Woosnam the third member in this group knocked it round in 82 and it is hard to envisage him shooting many shots lower today. Merritt is someone who can keep it on the straight and narrow and unlike his two playing partners still has plenty to play for heading into today. He has a very lively chance of making the cut and I presumed he'd be 4/5 for this shootout with An. I am amazed we can still get odds against and I see it as a great opportunity.

Our second bet goes to French amateur Romain Langasque. I am hugely surprised to see this talented kid priced up at 11/4 to win his three ball tomorrow. On Thursday Langer won the 3 ball with a score of level par. Mahan finished +1, Romain +2. Certainly nothing to be ashamed of in your first jaunt around Augusta on a tough day. He certainly has the ability to beat Langer over 18 holes. Mahan hasn't been playing well lately and I think he will struggle to make the cut. In DeChambeau and Langasque we have two of the best amateurs we have seen in a while and I wouldn't be surprised if these two made the weekend. At 11/4 this is simply decent value and we should get a proper run for our money in this three ball.

That is all for today. I didn't see much else on offer, just Rose at around 11/1 may be a shade of value to lead after day two. I thought about backing however I feel Spieth will be hard to topple. If anyone is looking for an outright play at this stage I'd probably say Rose is the safest option to give you a run for your dough against the current leader.
