Tony Elves' followers have been in clover in recent weeks and he has two bets this Saturday.
Unfortunately the Aidan O’Brien-trained colt came to an untimely end in the Breeders’ Cup after proving a flop at stud but he did produce one foal Date With Destiny who was herself successful on the racecourse. Nothing would be more fitting than if a produce of that mare was to grace herself in a Classic and that dream could be alive at Newbury this afternoon where Beautiful Morning makes her reappearance in the Haras De Bouquetot Fillies’ Trial.
Trainer Luca Cumani is a creature of habit and targeted this race with Volume in 2014, while Pomona finished a creditable third to Crystal Zvezda in the mile and a quarter event 12 months ago. Beautiful Morning comes here with the same or even better credentials as she won the highly influential Convivial Maiden Stakes at York last August by a length from Very Talented who then went onto beat Lingustic in a maiden at Doncaster’s St Leger meeting. Linguistic has proved a classy individual this season and was beaten a short head in the Dee Stakes and the form is clearly working out well.
Beautiful Morning was clearly taking on something special when fifth to Minding in the Fillies Miles at Newmarket on her final start but the daughter of Galileo looks the sort to thrive further and she look a crack bet with a 2pt investment advised.
At Newmarket, the best bet on the card could well be Thikriyaat in the Listed King Charles II Stakes.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt made a successful debut over a mile at Chelmsford in October when beating Loading a half a length and showed plenty of battling qualities when following up with a neck defeat of Tabarrak over seven furlongs at Newmarket in April. The runner-up has since gone one better in a competitive event at Ascot and he looks the sort that will always just find enough.
Thikriyaat can show further improvement here and book his place at Royal Ascot. A 1pt win is suggested.
