The Champion Hurdle is the feature race of Day One of the Cheltenham Festival, and therefore a hugely prestigious event for trainers and jockeys to win.
Run over 2m 87y, the Champion Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race, open to horses aged four years or older – but which horses have won the Champion Hurdle?
Previous winners of the Champion Hurdle include: Espoir D’Allen, who won the race by 15 lengths in 2019, despite being priced as long as 16/1 before the off.
Prior to Espoir D’Allen’s victory last year, Buveur D’Air won back-to-back Champion Hurdles for Nicky Henderson in 2017 and 2018.
The biggest-price winner of the Champion Hurdle over the last decade was the aforementioned Espoir D’Allen, at 16/1, who did the business for trainer Gavin Cromwell.
Five of the last 10 winners of the Champion Hurdle have been the betting favourites, so it’s worth noting this year’s favourite for the Champion Hurdle: Epatante (10/3)
