There’s been much speculation about Jim Harbaugh making his long-awaited return to the NFL this season. He’s a prime candidate for both the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts jobs. That said, the sportsbooks don’t really expect him to come back and they’d be shocked if he left Michigan.

Harbaugh is given -140 odds, or an implied 58.3% chance to return to Michigan for the 2023 season. However, it should be noted that he is the favorite to land the Colts job at +300, or an implied 25% chance. He’s just in front of Jeff Saturday who’s given +400 odds, or an implied 20% chance.
He's also given decent +400 odds, or an implied 20% chance to head to the Broncos. However, those odds have been tumbling. He was once the favorite for the job at +200, in just one week he’s gone from an implied 33.3% chance to a 20% chance. He’s been jumped on the market by Dan Quinn, now +200, and Sean Payton, now +250.
There’s little to no chance he’d take any other opening. The Carolina Panthers are given +1200 odds, the Arizona Cardinals +2000, and the Houston Texans +2500.

Could he be using the NFL as a threat to get a raise at Michigan? It’s certainly possible. Do sportsbooks believe that Harbaugh simply doesn’t want to work in the NFL again? His stint in the league with the San Francisco 49ers didn’t end well and it’s very possible that it left a bad enough taste in his mouth that he’d never want to return.
There’s also the very real chance that Harbaugh is simply looking at all his options and he'll make the best choice for him and his family this offseason whether that means a return to the NFL or not. For now, the sportsbooks aren’t going to believe that he leaves Michigan until he actually does it.
