Olympic Hockey Odds: Russia Given 40% Chance to Win Gold in Men’s Hockey
Russia is looking to win its third unofficial Olympic Gold Medal in men’s hockey. They did in 1992 under the Unified Team, and then again in 2018 as the Olympic Athletes from Russia. In 2022, they’re competing as the Russian Olympic Committee. Oddsmakers don’t believe that there’s much of anything anyone can do to stop the Russian athletes from winning.
The ROC are given +150 odds, or an implied 40% chance to win gold. They’re followed by Finland who’s given +450 odds, or an implied 18.2% chance. Both Canada and Sweden are given +700 odds, or an implied 12.5% chance.

Olympic Hockey Odds - The Gold Medal is Russia's to Lose
Of course, with NHL players not being given permission to play most countries are hurting, but none may be feeling the effect more than the United State. The American team is given +1700 odds, or an implied 5.6% chance to win.
With no NHL players allowed, Russia has a clear advantage. Sure, they’re missing some of their stars but the majority of their team is still intact. The same can’t be said for most of the other teams competing. So, it should come as no surprise that Russia is the heavy favorite. If they do win the gold, it’ll be the first time they’ve won it in back-to-back years since winning three in a row in 1984, 1988, and 1992.
