Houston Texans Head Coach Contenders

Gannon is the current favorite at +175, or an implied 36.4% chance to land the job. Ryans is behind him at +200, or an implied 33.3% chance. Things have tightened in recent days, on January 12th, Gannon was +150 and Ryans +300, so while Gannon remains the favorite, momentum is clearly with the 49ers' Defensive Coordinator.

While Gannon and Ryans are the clear favorites at this point, there are a few other candidates to consider. Mike Kafka is given +500 odds, or an implied 16.7% chance to surprise and land the job. Ejiro Evero is given +600 odds, or an implied 14.3% chance to get the job. Shane Steichen is given +650 odds, or an implied 13.3% chance to steal the job from his fellow Eagles assistant.

It’s hard to break the deadlock between Gannon and Ryans. Gannon is the slight favorite because of the impression he left last year and the idea that he was a strong favorite coming into this search. Meanwhile, Ryans is aided by being the first true homegrown star in Texans' history. Both are clearly strong candidates with ties to the organization and little between them. Could Sunday’s NFC title game have a say in who Houston hires?
