Knicks Rumors: New York Favored to Land Chris Paul if He's Traded
The Phoenix Suns have had a rough 2022-23 season. With injuries and underperformance keeping them in the play-in. Could that lead them to tear it down and trade some of their more valuable veterans? If it does, Chris Paul should be at the top of the list, and the New York Knicks would be at the front of the line. Below, we will go over the latest New York Knicks rumors and see if Chris Paul makes sense in the Big Apple.
Phoenix is rumored to be interested in multiple players during the trade deadline. Those players include OG Anunoby, Pascal Siakam, Gary Trent Jr., and Fred VanVleet have all been linked to a potential deal with the Suns. Now, those rumors don't mean that the Suns would trade Chris Paul at the deadline. However, if they could make a deal for a big-time name at the NBA trade deadline, they might be able to package Paul and get a good return for him. Paul is signed until 2025, with his salary only being $15.8 million next season. Is that too much for the Knicks to trade some of their younger players?
Chris Paul Next Team Odds
Team | Odds | Implied chance |
---|---|---|
New York Knicks | +200 | 33.3% |
Toronto Raptors | +250 | 28.6% |
Charlotte Hornets | +350 | 22.2% |
New Orleans Pelicans | +450 | 18.6% |
Atlanta Hawks | +750 | 11.8% |
Chicago Bulls | +1000 | 9.1% |
Miami Heat | +1200 | 7.7% |
The Knicks are given +200 odds, or an implied 33.3% chance to land Chris Paul if the Suns decide to trade him. The Toronto Raptors are second on the market at +250, or an implied 28.6% chance. The Charlotte Hornets aren’t far behind at +350, or an implied 22.2% chance. Even an addition of Chris Paul might not do much for the Knicks. They're an above-average team, but this isn't 2015 anymore. Paul showed he still had it in him when Phoenix went to an NBA Finals two seasons ago. However, his recent play hasn't been anything crazy.
Among the realistic longshots are the New Orleans Pelicans who are given +450 odds, or an implied 18.2% chance to bring Paul back home. The Atlanta Hawks are also given +750 odds, or an implied 11.8% chance.
The books clearly don’t care about roster construction here. The Knicks, Raptors, Hornets, and Hawks all have established point guards in their lineups. Could that mean the books view Chris Paul as a bench piece at this point in his career? It’d be hard to find a better bench piece if that’s the case. Perhaps that’s why the books expect a team with picks like the Knicks to make a move for the former MVP.
The Knicks are expected to make moves this deadline. Will Paul be one of them?
