With Cam Newton signing a one-year deal with the New England Patriots, bettors and oddsmakers alike have been looking to get in on the action

Little is known of what Newton’s involvement in the offense will look like. Will he start? Will he backup Jarrett Stidham? Will they run a multi-qb system? With Bill Belichick at the helm, it’s all really on the table.

Even with his role still unknown, the oddsmakers over at DraftKings have priced up some head-to-head odds featuring Newton and both the QB for which he’s presumably taking over and the QB who took his spot in Carolina.

The first matchup features Newton vs. The GOAT. As of Wednesday afternoon, you can bet on who you think will throw more passing touchdowns this season, Tom Brady or Cam Newton? Brady is the overwhelming favorite at -500, implying an 83.3% chance of coming out on top. Newton is +370 against Brady, giving him a 21.3% chance of winning the head to head.

The other battle features Newton and his successor in Carolina, Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater signed a contract with the Panthers this offseason after spending the last two seasons in New Orleans, backing up Drew Brees.

Newton is again the underdog in this one, but the odds are much closer. The former NFL MVP is +110 to throw more passing TDs, while Bridgewater is -134. Newton’s odds imply a 47.6% chance of winning and Bridgewater’s give him a 57.3% chance.

Newton is a risky play in both matchups with his status on his new team very much still up in the air, but if he were to pick up where he left off last time he was healthy, he could present real value, especially in the Brady matchup, to bettors looking to hit big.
